Maya’s Present for Her Brother

December 4th, 2009 in Blog by Jeanette Ramnarine

Maya's presentWhile my boys were spending a few days in Toronto Maya decided she would like to go out shopping and surprise her brother with a present for his birthday.  She emptied her SPENDING money into her wallet and we headed out to the dollar store.  She was pretty intent on finding the perfect gift that her brother would love.  We searched up and down the aisles and she finally found the perfect gift.  It was the cutest little stuffed giraffe and she said that she knew Caleb would love it because the giraffe was his favorite animal and he loves stuffed animals.  She bought the giraffe and brought it home and then spent quite awhile decorating a box to put the giraffe in.  On the box she wrote, in her little five year old handwriting, “To Caleb – Love Maya”.  She excitedly hid the present in her dollhouse so that Caleb would have to go on a hunt to find it.  When the boys got home the following day, Caleb played along and found the present his sister had bought for him.  He opened it up and loved the little giraffe so much that he asked if he could bring it along for his birthday dinner.  He could tell that his sister put a lot of thought into decorating the box and asked if it would be o.k. if he kept the box too.  Maya felt pretty special that not only did her brother like the gift but wanted to keep the box that she worked so hard on making for him too.
