Financial values for children

Spending

Spending

The Spending piggy bank is used to make small purchases. This money can be transferred into your child’s own wallet when you go out shopping. Dollar stores are an excellent area to spend this money. Allowing your child to choose what they would like to purchase teaches them to make wise decisions. Children will learn very quickly that a cheap toy will break easily and as a parent you can teach them to make smart purchases when using their spending money.

As your child gets older their spending money can be used to purchase their own meals, movie tickets, or admission to events when going out.

Ideas for Spending Money purchases ages 3-8.

  • small toys
  • hair accessories
  • colouring books
  • activity books
  • craft items eg, stickers, paints, crayons, markers, rulers
  • food purchases

Check out your local dollar store. There is an abundance of things your child will be able to choose from.
